Coldplay and BTS’ ambitious crossover track brought with it an equally ambitious music video. The concept features three groups of musicians (one fictional and entirely CG) that live on three separate dystopian planets, in a universe where music has been outlawed. The futuristic setting demanded a lot of CG work, and to meet that demand Ingenuity Studios hired four other VFX studios, including Rodeo FX.
I was brought on this project as a texture artist. My work subsisted mostly of creating the materials for the buildings we see in the background during Coldplay’s scenes (originally filmed in Barcelona). Once I had the materials defined, it was mostly a task of adding grunge and alien graffiti to make them feel more belonging to this dystopian world.
I also worked extensively creating textures/shaders for other assets that unfortunately do not appear in the final cut of the music video.
