Domesicle 2020

PROCESS
In the summer of 2020 I had the opportunity to return to VJ at the →SAT (Society of Art and Technology) for Domesicle 2020. I was booked for two nights; The ↓Hot Tramp set↓ on the July 11 and the ↓MUTEK set↓ on August 8.
My approach to VJing differs from other VJs in that instead of mixing pre-rendered 3D videos using software like Resolume, I use →Notch to modify 3D scenes that I design beforehand. This enables a degree of flexibility and responsiveness that is rarely seen in VJing, especially in immersive contexts such as the →Dome.
This approach adds an additional layer to the “Live” experience as all my visuals are individually manipulated in real time.

MUTEK

MUTEK’s Domesicle 2020 set featured DJ →Daura, Montréal-based DJ duo →Flabbergast, and DJ →Magnanime. I had the pleasure to VJ alongside →Diagraf, who created visuals for Magnanime’s set. The visuals I created feature a human head sculpted in ZBrush as the center piece, with two hands animated in Autodesk Maya. This creates an environment for the “tunnel” visuals I manipulated in real-time. These visuals were done for Daura and Flabbergast. You can watch the entire set ↓below↓.

HOT TRAMP

For Hot Tramp’s Domesicle 2020 set, I had the pleasure of creating visuals for talented musicians →Magi Merlin, →Forever,  and DJ  →softcoresoft.

For Magi Merlin, I created a psychedelic disco-ball as a center piece, with two female hands animated in Autodesk Maya to frame it.
For Forever, I incorporated two 3D Scans of the Venus de Milo from the Louvre, and an audio-reactive lemniscate (infinity symbol). For both of the center pieces of Magi Merlin and Forever’s set, the center pieces were controlled in realtime to move towards the audience, amplifying the immersive effect of the dome.
